Very interesting article and great to see they found a good use for this old prison instead of knocking it down. I will have to stay there one day when I finally get around to visiting Fremantle.

Did any of the staff shared with you spooky stories or urban legends about Fremantle Prison before it was turned into a youth hostel?

In reply to Richard Coathup. Hi Richard, yes Fremantle Prison YHA hostel is sheer luxury compared to what the old prison. They had indeed a hard life considering that many prisoners were in jail for banal reasons, like swearing or bein drunk in public.

When I was last at Fremantle Prison in early November 2014 they were in the process of putting the finishing touches to the YHA accommodation. It would be very interesting staying there after you have done a few of the prison tours to add further insights into the prison its inmates. Who would have thought now the prison has paying customers to stay over night. Unlike the prisoners cells did not have running water, power points and a toilet as they only had a bucket so YHA is sheer luxury.
